Marc Ribot: art guitarist extraordinaire

It’s been more than a year since we posted an article about music. The upcoming concert of Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog in Rotterdam on February 16th is a fantastic reason to change this. The name of Marc Ribot might not ring a bell with anyone, so let us tell you why we are so excited that he’s coming to town.

Born in 1954, the American guitarist has been active since the seventies and has contributed his talent to the works of a staggering amount of legendary musicians: Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, John Zorn, Marianne Faithful, Norah Jones, The Black Keys, Robert Plant and Alisson Kraus, Caetano Veloso to name just a few.

Since 1990 he’s also been releasing his own music, under his own name, or as part of Marc Ribot y Los Cubanos Postizos, Marc Ribot Trio, Marc Ribot & The Young Philadelphians, and Ceramic Dog. His explorations across the musical landscapes have covered many grounds, from free jazz to Cuban music to noise rock. Marc Ribot is a musician that has made a mark on many many albums and in many many scenes.

In Ceramic Dog he has now teamed up with 2 fantastic musicians, bass player Shazad Ismailly and drummer Chess Smith, known for their work with the mind blowing Secret Chiefs 3, as well as Xiu Xiu, Will Oldham, Ben Frost and many others. The best way to show you of why you shouldn’t miss this trio on tour, is this awe inspiring performance at KEXP.
