The New Generation – Cyd

The New Generation – Cyd

In light of our new ‘Leftover’ collection, we’ve approached The New Generation to get their perspective on the environment, and what brings colour to their lives. For this edition, we sat down with Cyd Vaandrager, 17 years old, from Rotterdam.

Describe yourself in three words.
Colourful, social, curious.

Where are you now?
I live in Rotterdam now. I hope I can still live here when I’m done with my education. Our house is in Rotterdam-West, nearby the city centre 🙂 My room is my favourite spot in the house.

What part does colour play in your life?
Colour is very important to me. It says a lot about someone. What I choose to wear in the morning, also depends on my mood. Still, I almost always wear something colourful, preferably with different colours and prints, all mixed together.

What do you do to make the world a little bit prettier?
I try to avoid negative energy and people as much as possible. I’m open to change. I only eat plant-based food and I donate my old clothing and stuff to charities. I also spend a lot of time at our allotment, a small place in Rotterdam with lots of nature.

Do you make an effort to use less plastic and reduce the stuff you use?
By being thankful for the stuff that I already have, I’m less inclined to buy new things. By asking myself, ‘Do I really need this?’ when I’m in a store, I often leave it there. When I’m at the market, I go for fruit and vegetables, but I don’t accept any plastic bags anymore. When you bring your own bags, it’s much more sustainable!

What would you change in this world?
I would make sure that there is less inequality and that everyone has daily access to enough food, water and a roof above their head.

Cyd is wearing The New Pouch in Oak & Cloud. ‘Leftover’ will be available from November 22.
