Clean-Up Walk & relaunch SUSAN BIJL ♥ Rotterdam

The New Shopping Bag in ‘Wena & Rotte’ will relaunch on November 15th. After so many requests we just had to! The follow-up is also our first collection made from 100% recycled ripstop nylon. Because we love to do something practical and local (and get our hands dirty), we are organising a Clean-Up Walk to prevent plastic from ending up in the Maas, and eventually, the ocean.

This special edition is our tribute to Rotterdam and Rotterdammers. The white colour ‘Rotte’ refers to the river Rotte. The green colour ‘Wena’ refers to the Hof van Wena, which was approximately located on the site of the former Hofplein Station. The re-release follows a very successful launch in the spring when the bag sold out in a few days. You do not have to look very hard to spot someone with the bag on the streets of Rotterdam!

For the realisation of The New Shopping Bag in the Rotterdam colours, we joined forces with Rotterdam Tourist Information, part of Rotterdam Partners, the city’s marketing organisation. Rotterdam Tourist Information sells gifts and souvenirs to tourists and locals at its Coolsingel, Rotterdam Central and Hoek van Holland locations.

Prior to the launch on the 15th, from 15:00 to 17:00, SUSAN BIJL and Recycled Island Foundation are organising a Clean-up Walk through Rotterdam to clean the streets and riverbanks of plastic pollution and thus prevent this litter from ending up in the Maas River and the ocean. This plastic will be recycled by Recycled Island Foundation and reused for the construction of new plastic catchers, floating parks and furniture.

Recycled Island Foundation is a non-profit organisation from Rotterdam, working on cleaning up rivers and oceans since 2014. With sustainable litter traps, they catch floating plastic in rivers before it reaches the ocean. From their locations in Rotterdam and Bern (Switzerland), they work on the prevention, awareness, education, retrieval and reuse of marine litter. More than 80% of floating plastic in seas and oceans comes from land sources. RIF is working on an international approach to make rivers, harbours, seas and oceans clean from plastic pollution. Their approach is a combination of the retrieval of floating plastic in rivers with Litter Traps and cleanups, creating circular products and educating people.

Join Susan and the SUSAN BIJL team in cleaning up the streets in Rotterdam! The launch of the bag and accompanying drinks will take place afterwards from 17:00 – 19:00 at Rotterdam Tourist Information.

You can sign up for the Clean-Up Walk here.

Of course, you are also welcome for just a drink and a chat at the launch at 17:00, Rotterdam Tourist Information Coolsingel.

Wena & Rotte’ from SUSAN BIJL ♥ ROTTERDAM can be purchased exclusively from Rotterdam Tourist Information and the SUSAN BIJL flagship store from 10AM 15 November.
