SUSAN BIJL X Paul Smith - Edition Three
Available in The New Shopping Bag, The New Pouch, The New Protectable and The New Trash Bag — from July 10 at Paul Smith UK and SUSAN BIJL, and from July 15 in Japan.

The relationship
Paul Smith was one of the very first stockists of SUSAN BIJL bags, selling them in their London and New York shops more than 20 years ago. They remain a firm favourite amongst Paul Smith staff and customers, appreciated for their durability and stylish design.
The collaboration
We admire Paul Smith's unmistakable blend of classic British tailoring with playful, unexpected twists. The brand's bold use of colour and pattern resonates with SUSAN BIJL's love for timeless yet vibrant design. Sharing a balance of sophistication, humour and creativity, the collaboration feels like a natural fit.
Diving into their archives, Paul Smith's team was drawn to the Spring/Summer 1989 runway collection, where stripes and colours moved fluidly across garments. Inspired by this dynamic play of fabric, they translated crinkles, shadows and movement into bag compositions. The result: a print design that combines Paul Smith's graphic sensibility with SUSAN BIJL's iconic designs.

What We Held, islands of a Certain Summer
We left the city behind, or perhaps it left us. If you want to know the truth, the journey became something else entirely. It wasn't just a cycling trip. It really wasn't. It was a kind of shared silence, if that makes any sense.
The islands of South Holland in summer. Fields of corn flowers and poppies. Windmills in the distance, patient and still. We pedaled through deserted fieds, broad river sides reflecting nothing in particular. It was beautiful, but it really was.
But it was the conversations that mattered most. Our bicycles, moving through those landscapes. The kind that only happen when you're moving forward together, when the rhythm of cycling allows words to come slowly, honestly. Deep friendships revealed themselves in these moments, not through grand gestures, but through the simple act of showing up, riding side by side, understanding without needing to explain. That's the thing about real friendships. They don't need explaining.
There was something almost dreamlike about it. The warmth of summer on our faces. The feeling that time had stopped, that we existed in a space separate from everything else. The kind of moment you know, even as it's happening, you'll carry with you. The kind of thing worth holding onto.
