SUSAN BIJL X nijntje

This collection is exclusively available in Japan.

This year, SUSAN BIJL is proud to participate in the Dutch pavilionCommon Ground’ shop at the Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai, Japan. We are representing the Netherlands alongside other Dutch icons, such as nijntje (in English known as Miffy).

nijntje shopping bag

Nijntje has a large fan base in Japan, and the Dutch Pavilion has offered a range of exclusive nijntje items, not available anywhere else in the world. Being so close to nijntje, we got the opportunity to create a very special edition of The New Shopping Bag, featuring nijntje holding up the Common Ground flag.

For this collection, we created three shopping bags in classic Dick Bruna colourways: orange & brown (small), blue & green (medium) and brown & yellow (large). A very special and cute collaboration that we are extremely proud to present for a limited time only.

This collaboration is exclusively available at the Dutch Pavilion at the World Expo in Osaka, as long as stock lasts. Not available online and no reservations. One bag per size per customer. To get this bag, plan a visit to the pavilion.

70th Anniversary of nijntje

2025 is not only the year of Expo, but it also marks the 70th anniversary of nijntje. The first book, simply titled Nijntje, was first published in Dutch in 1955. While on holiday in the 1950s, Dick Bruna would tell his eldest son bedtime stories about a little white bunny who scampered around the garden of their holiday home. This bunny became the inspiration for nijntje. Nijntje’s 70th birthday is celebrated around the world with exhibitions and other events. In Japan, a Nijntje-themed area is scheduled to open at Huis ten Bosch in the summer of 2025.
