Every December purchase at SUSAN BIJL supports a child in joining a sports or culture club next year.
20% of our revenue will be donated to 'Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur' throughout December. The fund covers children's contributions or tuition fees for participating in after-school activities like football, street dance, judo, swimming lessons, and music classes.
The holidays are a wonderful time to treat your loved ones. As is any time of year, but as it’s the season of gifting, why not take the opportunity to give something extra to the people in your community? Every year, we choose to support a local charity, as sadly, not every family in our city has the privilege to provide for basic needs, no matter the season.
Exercising, dancing, and being active culturally are at the top of our list to create a fulfilled and happy life. Being involved in a sports or after-school activity club is meaningful for the development of children; they learn to work together, discover what they are good at, make new friends and gain confidence.
The Netherlands is one of the wealthiest countries in the world. Yet more than 272.000 children grow up in families with financial problems. That’s 1 in 5 kids in Rotterdam. 59% of young people in poverty are members of a sports club, compared to 86% of young people from families with a higher income. Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur helps by removing the financial barrier to sports clubs and cultural institutions. In 2022, they reached 9.453 children in Rotterdam.
These children lack the opportunities that many of their peers can take for granted. Playing sports and acquiring cultural hobbies helps a child to grow physically, mentally, and socially. This is important for the development and future of the child, but also for the family and society as a whole.
The fund pays the contribution or tuition for these children so they can join football, street dance or judo or take swimming and music lessons. They also help with providing supplies like sportswear. Want to know more, help or discover whether you are eligible for a contribution from the fund? Take a look at their website jeugdfondssportencultuur.nl.
Whether it is football, drawing lessons, karate or theatre, every child deserves to participate and play together!
