The New Generation – Danja

In light of our new ‘Leftover’ collection, we’ve approached The New Generation to get their perspective on the environment, and what brings colour to their lives. For this edition, we had a chat with 13 year old Danja van der Linden from Capelle aan den IJssel.

Describe yourself in three words.
Helpful, sporty, studious.

Tell us something about yourself and your hobby.
I always find it very annoying to tell something about myself, I don’t know why. I’m in the second class of the Cordarts school for dance and music in Rotterdam. I’m studying dance, so I have regular classes and then also 20 hours of dance classes. My hobby is dancing, of course, I’d love to do that the whole day. When I turn on the tv I do that dancing, when I have to lay the table, I do that dancing, and even when I have to go to the bathroom, I do that dancing.

What part does colour play in your life?
My favourite colour is blue, and turquoise and mint. Another favourite colour is lilac (that’s why my dog is called Lila). You’ll also find lilac in my room.

What ecological measures would you take if you ruled the world?
Banning plastics. Everyone can bring their own bag, and sell less plastic bags in stores.

What would you make of leftover fabrics?
I’d turn them into new clothes and gives those away to children who have no clothing.
Is there anyone who inspires you to act more environment-friendly?

Yes, Susan Bijl, because I realize more that I should use less plastics and other fabrics and that I should recycle more to re-use more.

What will the world look like in 10 years from now?
I think robots will be made that help you make coffee and that stand behind the counter in stores.

Danja has The New Shopping Bag in Jaws & Oranda. ‘Leftover’ will be available from November 22.
