From time to time we ask a more or lesser-known user of the New Shopping Bag about his or her life. In the 8th episode its two surfing brothers from Texel, Jaas and Senne Roeper. We have met them through the Surf Top Sport Team. They’re very modest, but with a distinctive and original style. We’re proud to feature them on our blog!

Where are you now?
Right now we are on the island of Texel, that is where we live together with our parents and our other brother.
Tell us something about you and The New Shopping Bag
We are both in the STC, and every year Susan Bijl sponsors each team member a bag to their choice. It is the perfect bag to take your wetsuit and towel to the beach, or to let your mother go to the supermarket with. We also really like the fact you can choose from hundreds of different colours so you can pick one that fits best to your style.
Tell us something about Susan.
We don’t see Susan very often, but we know her as the always stoked mother of Spijker (who also is a teamrider for the STC). Together with Vincent they’re always there to support Spijker and the rest of the team.
What ecological measures would you take if you ruled the world?
First of all we would make public transport way cheaper, so more people use public transport instead of their car. And we would also make it compulsory to take hitch hikers if your car isn’t already full so less cars are used and the Co2 emissions are being reduced.
How do you brighten up your existence?
Sometimes it is kinda boring to live on an island besides going to the beach there isn’t very much to do when you’re our age. There is not much happening around here, so we make the most of it together with our friends by surfing almost every day. When it’s flat we go out skating or play golf at the beach.
Which part does colour play in that process?
At one point we got so bored that we painted Jaas his hair blonde/yellow. And that’s about the only colour Jaas’ has now in his life. We don’t use a lot of colour in our clothes but Senne’s shopping bag has so much colour you barely notice we both wear black clothes.
Which music have you been listening to recently?
Our dad has been trying for years to let us listen to his ‘good’ music, and now finally, we start to appreciate his old crap. Some artists are: Talking Heads, The Cure, The White Stripes and Sparks. But still we listen more hip/hop like Nas, Mos Def and Big L.
What’s is your biggest loss?
For Jaas, his biggest loss is by far when he broke his best board in France. It was our first day, the first session and the first wave he caught.
What is your ultimate destination?
Obviously the WSL, that’s for both of us the ultimate goal. But first we want to have as much fun as possible with surfing and discovering the world.
