We are currently running a campaign to raise money for Ukrain. The money will go to the 11 organisations behind the Giro555 appeal to supply accommodation, medical care and clean water to people fleeing the war. Yet we still feel like we are unable to act fully effectively.

De Zure Bom's Kerststol recipe
As these last weeks of 2021 are again spent in lockdown, we focus on the things close to us: friends, family and, of course, food! We all know that baking bread was and probably still is a big 'lockdown-trend', but have you tried making your own Christmas 'kerststol'?
Save Museumpark!
Rotterdam’s iconic plaza for urban sports is about to change for the worse. Go to Museumpark on a nice day, and you will find so many beautiful people doing their thing; skaters, rollerskaters, hula-hoopers, dancers, teenagers and adults alike. The big coloured asphalt creates a unique spot in Rotterdam, where everyone...
Support MONO: invest in a future where MONO can be a safe haven.
We are as much part of Rotterdam as Rotterdam is part of us. We feel connected with its creative and cultural spaces and want to give support whenever needed. As a progressive space for music and culture, MONO has proven its significance for our hometown.
Stop plant-based censorship!
“Would you like your coffee with cow milk or oat milk?“ It’s a question you often hear nowadays in coffee shops. It is almost a given that everyone, at both our Flagship store and our head office, prefers a plant-based alternative to cow milk. We love some creamy oat milk in our coffee in the morning, but a great deal could change for these beloved products in the near future…
You want a Christmas card!? Here’s your Christmas card!
You might have noticed that here at SUSAN BIJL we are pretty pretty pretty big fans of the 90’s Sitcom Seinfeld. If you haven’t heard of Seinfeld, it’s hard to really describe the hilarious series in words. It originated from an idea by comedians Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld to make ‘a show about nothing’ and aired from 1989 until 1998 on NBC.
Two generations: one goal
At first glance, a 94-year-old English man and a 17-year-old Swedish girl do not seem to have much in common, but nothing could be further from the truth. Earlier this year both broadcaster David Attenborough and activist Greta Thunberg released documentaries.
About Endlessness: Sad and sweet
One of the things we probably missed most during the lock-down was going to the movies. In our fast-paced city life, it’s nice to sit in the dark with a complete focus on a story. It’s our little escape, and Netflix or other home options couldn’t offer the same experience....
White Homework
We want to take our responsibility in educating ourselves and our followers about anti-racism. We are white, and we know many of our followers are too. Although we believe very few people want to be racist, we know that racial dynamics are complex and deeply rooted in our western society.
Dutch tv shows that we enjoy
As the dust settles of the first wave of COVID-19, societies slowly crawl back out of quarantine. However, for the time to come, we will probably spend more time at home than in pre-corona times, as many of us will be forced to reduce their holiday plans to staycations. These are the Dutch television shows that bring colour to life between four walls.
The Playlist archives
In an attempt to keep you all entertained on a creative level, we have asked a bunch of serious music lovers in our circle of new and old friends to compose a playlist with some of their favourite tunes.
SUSAN BIJL’s tips for staying in
The corona crisis has hit us all hard, and our thoughts go out to those affected by the disease personally and to those that have to work double shifts to keep our society from falling apart. For the rest of us who are forced to stay at home all alone or with their family, we have compiled a list of fun and exciting stuff to get you through these weeks.
The lighthouse: the brilliance of simplicity
It seems to be high season in the cinemas. For months now there’s been a relentless stream of great movies that you’d better not miss. Joker, The Peanut Butter Falcon, Little Women and Les Misérables, to name just a few. Here we would like to bring to your attention a remarkable movie that really stands out: The Lighthouse.
Lovage salad, a heroic Christmas appetizer
As the end of 2019 draws near, not only a year but an entire decade comes to an end. It’s been an amazing decade for SUSAN BIJL in which we’ve developed and improved on so many fronts. Every now and then we like to take our team out to have some quality time and celebrate our work.
A Christmas for everybody
That most wonderful time of the year is upon us. A time of family and friends. A time of warmth during the cold. A time of peace during war. Unfortunately, Christmas is not as warm and peaceful for all.
Flying carbon neutral with FairClimateFund
As we produce our bluesign certified products in Asia, we sometimes cannot escape from flying over there to meet our suppliers and see how we can improve the production process. This is a necessary evil. Luckily there are great opportunities to at least compensate for the CO2 emission caused by these flights, and we’d like to focus here on how to fly climate neutral thanks to FairClimateFund.
The colours of David Hockney
Our newest collection ‘Untitled‘ is an homage to the art that has continuously inspired Susan Bijl in her design work. One of these inspirations recently had an enormous overview exhibition at the Tate Gallery in Londen, and is now on show next to his predecessor at the Van Gogh Museum.
Marc Ribot: art guitarist extraordinaire
It’s been more than a year since we posted an article about music. The upcoming concert of Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog in Rotterdam on February 16th is a fantastic reason to change this. The name of Marc Ribot might not ring a bell with anyone, so let us tell you why we are so excited that he’s coming to town.
Our annual Christmas recipe: Jack Bean’s spiced pumpkin soup
Can we already call this a tradition? For the third year in a row, we present you a delicious Christmas recipe, courtesy of a chef or restaurant that we frequent, love and/or admire.
Upcycle your old sleeping bag (or money) for refugees
Christmas is coming. And in the Northern Hemisphere this means winter is here. For some winter means cosy times on the couch, for others it means downhill adventures and even others experience as dark times with looming depression. However there’s a group of people for whom winter really is a matter of life and death: the homeless on our streets and the refugees in their camps.
